On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, the Utah Watercolor Society presented an honorary membership to Beverly Byington, member of the Cache Valley Chapter. Bev was one of a small group of artists who started the Cache Valley Chapter and served as its vice president over 20 years ago.
She taught art for the city of Reno for 10
years before being the artist personality/fixture that she has become in the
Cache Valley Chapter.
She has been labeled
a “primitive painter,” but her artworks always have a story to tell, whether it
be from her family’s history or from a dream she had. Recognizing her unusual talent, Utah State
University recently honored her for her
artworks, some of which became part of USU’s permanent folk art
collection.
For many, Bev has been a role model, practicing art all the
time, experimenting with different materials, and fearlessly trying something new. She will even draw with sticks and mud if there is
nothing else available.
To visit her home is quite the experience. Her artist’s hand has touched every surface and space! Her "Creation" series of quilts moves some
visitors to tears.
Bev continues to be a stalwart member of the Cache Valley plein air bunch and rarely misses a
monthly meeting. Thank you, Bev, for
your years of inspiring others with your artwork!
